What motivated you to choose your Master’s course?
When I decided to pursue my Master’s I wanted the course that would be cover technology and management - and would allow me to study data and visualise it. I felt the modules of this course just aligned with my preferences of both technical which had subjects such as business analytics, machine learning and management had sustainable supply chain and big data management.
I was trying to come out of my shell to code for the first time and I felt this blend of modules would help me do that. Also, the thought of not narrowing down my scope to just one field but various opportunities made me choose this course.
How did you get to where you are now?
I was aware that the UK job market would be challenging, and while some people expressed doubts about my chances, I chose to stay focused and optimistic, using their concerns as motivation to prove what I was capable of achieving.
Your favourite experience on your course?
My favourite part of my course is the dissertation where we played the car simulation game, where we had multiple rounds of decision making, team effort and various technical skills to make this a success. It was very interesting to play this with my team.
The most challenging part of your graduate journey?
As an international student from India leaving home and my family was the biggest challenge for me. I felt home sick when I arrived in the UK. Keeping myself engaged and getting involved with opportunities as a student helped me. Taking up a part-time job played a key role in keeping me occupied as well as helping me earn money! It also gave me a confidence to live independently and overcome the home-sickness I felt at times.
What are you top 3 tips for current students and graduates?
- Don’t let anybody define you. You know yourself more than anybody. Trust the process and never be afraid to try what you want. Never give up!
- Explore and keep yourself occupied. Don’t let anyone distract your journey and the empire you’re building for yourself.
- Utilise all the job fairs and facilities by your Uni during your course period. It can surprise you in a lot of good ways.
