Vineet Suvarna, a University of Liverpool Computer Science graduate, shares how early career advice and networking opportunities helped him land a job and feel ready for the future.
What do you like the most about Liverpool?
Liverpool is a place full of culture, history, and a real energy in the people that you can feel everywhere you go. It’s not just the landmarks or the city itself—it’s the way people live with passion and pride that makes it such a vibrant place. The lifestyle here feels alive, and it definitely makes the whole experience of studying and living here even better.
What is your graduate journey and how did you land on your current job or Postgraduate degree?
I landed a job by being proactive and making the most of the opportunities around me. Early on, I booked a one-to-one session at the University’s Career Studio with Paulina, which really helped a lot. She guided me through grooming my profile, building my confidence, and learning how to pitch myself better to employers. Networking played a big role too—putting myself out there and staying open to new connections helped me find the right opportunity at the right time.
How did the University of Liverpool help you in terms of transition?
The University of Liverpool helped me in a lot of ways, especially when it came to becoming more self-sufficient and learning how to handle new and challenging situations. It gave me the tools to deal with problems more independently and to understand different people and perspectives. Diversity at Liverpool played a huge role—it made it easier to adapt, feel included, and learn from people from all walks of life. That kind of environment really prepared me for life beyond university.
What are your advice for current students and graduates?
My advice would be simple but really important—stay in touch with the university staff and career teams. They are there to help, and being proactive in university events, workshops, and sessions can make a big difference. The more involved you are, the more opportunities you’ll find. Stay active, stay connected, and keep learning—you never know which small step could lead to something bigger.
