LinkedIn Learning is a helpful platform to develop and learn new skills which can boost your employability through earning certificates and credentials in business, technology or creative fields. After having my summer internship cancelled due to Covid-19, I decided to look for other ways I could develop and learn new skills and after receiving information from the careers team about this platform, I made an account and began learning!

Having access to LinkedIn Learning has meant that despite my internship being cancelled I have been able to gain skills for the future and demonstrate these to employers. I chose courses such as 'Learning SQL Programming' and 'Advanced Excel Formulas' for data handling and analysis that I hoped to develop from my internship.  I have also found courses such as 'Leading Yourself' and 'Critical Thinking' useful to demonstrate soft skills to put on my CV and include in cover letters and interview answers.

Learning is provided via informational videos and exercises to complete. These are divided into topics and sub-sections you can work through at your own time and pace, making it easy to fit learning around any commitments you may have. There are a range of different levels and types of courses, some involve taking exams to gain extra certifications which can demonstrate your desire to learn and develop skills in the future to potential employers.  Similarly, there are many different courses on CV and cover letter writing and interview skills which can be utilized to help you gain employment opportunities and boost your confidence. Another benefit to LinkedIn Learning is that all certifications you achieve can be added directly to your profile which can be seen by companies and their recruitment teams when they are searching for candidates meaning that job offers may come directly to you.

LinkedIn Learning can provide you with skills and experience to give you a competitive edge that can improve your success in gaining the employment you desire after graduation.

University of Liverpool students and staff have free access to LinkedIn Learning, find out more via the CSD website.
