A letter to first year me: Charlotte

Charlotte is a Business & Management Class of 2025 graduate. She looks back at her time at the University of Liverpool and thinks about what she would tell her first-year self.

Dear First-Year Me,

You’re stepping into a world that feels huge compared to Jersey where you’ve grown up. The buzz of city life, the excitement of having more than 1 club to go to, the endless new faces and places, it’s all thrilling and maybe a little overwhelming. You don’t have a clear path yet. You don’t know what your passion is or where your future will lead and that’s okay.

You’re starting a Business Management course, and at first, it might seem like just a bunch of different subjects thrown together but that variety is exactly what you need. Through exploring all those modules, you’re going to discover a real interest in Human Resources.

This will lead you to turn your degree into a four-year course with a placement year in London, which you’ll love. Working at SAP, living in such a vibrant city, you’ll find yourself falling in love with both the work and the lifestyle. You’ll grow in confidence, independence, and ambition. London will feel like home, and although in first year I had expected to move back to Jersey after university, now London will be where I decide to move after graduation in a HR role which will be the perfect fit.

But the best part of the uni experience was the friendships. The people you meet along the way will become lifelong friends. They will support you through the late nights studying, discover all the pubs Liverpool has to offer with you and make these years unforgettable.

So, to first-year you, don’t worry about having it all figured out right now. Trust the process. Say yes to all the opportunities that are thrown at you and enjoy every moment.

With love, Charlotte
