A letter to first year me: Millie

Millie is a Class of 2025 Business Management with Year in Industry graduate. She looks back at her time at the University of Liverpool and thinks about what she would tell her first-year self.

Dear First Year Me,

You don’t know it yet, but you’re about to start a journey that will change your life in ways you never imagined.

Right now, you’re worried about not moving out, wondering if that choice will hold you back or stop you from making real friends. But here’s the truth: you’ll form friendships that feel like family. People who will laugh with you, lift you up, challenge you, and become part of your story in the best way.

In your first few weeks, you’ll take a chance and join Enactus Liverpool — a decision that will shape your entire university experience. Through it, you’ll discover your strengths, gain confidence, and find yourself saying yes to things that once felt far out of reach.

And that’s what it really comes down to — saying yes. Say yes to the scary stuff, the unexpected opportunities and the moments that push you out of your comfort zone. Because those moments will open doors you never knew existed. Little do you know right now, but this journey will take you further than you ever expected – from securing a placement at a reputable company to preparing to travel across the world to Fiji in your final year. The path ahead is full of surprises – just say yes and watch how the unexpected turns into something unforgettable.

You’ll have doubts. You’ll have setbacks. But through all of it, you’ll grow into someone you’ll be incredibly proud of. Be brave. Back yourself. Keep showing up — even when it’s hard. Because everything you’re about to do will be worth it.

Trust yourself and take it all in – this is the beginning of something truly special.

With love,

Your Future Self
