Steve Sharples Fellow

Professor Steve Sharples has been elected a Fellow of the Society of Light and Lighting in recognition of his contribution to lighting research.

Steve has twice been presented with the Society’s Leon Gaster award for the best research paper published in the international journal Lighting Research & Technology and he has chaired several lighting masterclasses around the UK organised by the Society. Steve’s research projects on daylight in atrium buildings and the impact of urban air pollution on daylight availability were funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, and the air pollution research has been continued by one of Steve’s former PhD students, Dr Jiangtao Du, who is now a Senior Lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University. Jiangtao will present a paper on pollution and daylight at the Building Simulation 2017 conference in San Francisco (Du J, Zhang X and Sharples S 'Air pollution and daylight availability in the urban area: dynamic simulation in an open-plan office in London', Proc. Building Simulation 2017, San Francisco, USA, 7-9 Aug 2017, ISBN 978-0-692-89710-2).
