MSc and MA students visit the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales

Postgraduate students from the MSc Sustainable Environmental Design in Architecture (SEDA) and the MA in Architecture programmes recently visited the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) in Machynlleth, Wales. CAT was a pioneer in renewable energy and has been promoting sustainable architecture design for over 40 years. The students had a guided tour of the site from Pat Borer, whose architectural practice has designed several of the low energy buildings on the site, such as the straw bale theatre and the rammed earth Shepperd Lecture Theatre. Professor Steve Sharples, Director of the MSc SEDA programme, organised the visit and commented “We had a great day out at CAT, and the students enjoyed getting up close to some examples of low energy architecture”.
