School of Architecture tutor James Jones to redesign Manchester Landmark

The original Manchester University Theatre was designed by George Grenfell Baines of BDP, then in the late 1990's it was rebuilt by Professor Alan Short (Short and Associates) to meet the needs of the Contact, ground breaking youth and community organisation that grew out of the 1972 the Manchester Young People's Theatre group.

In 2015 this multidisciplinary arts venue is changing once again to deliver not just drama but dance, music, poetry, spoken word, hip hop and fine art. Backed by Arts Council funding Contact have appointed James Jones (architect and LSA tutor) to lead a team from Sheppard Robson Architects to redesign this notable building, becoming the third generation of architects to work on this ever changing arts venue.
