Activate Huyton

Ideas from Young Architects in the making for Huyton Village High Street, cultivating a Future for Creative Innovation in our high streets and for Huyton Village.
An exhibition of ideas took place 18-30th June in Huyton Village Green 2024 with a well-attended opening community and stakeholder focused event. Work showcased was that from students from 3rd year Studio Pen and Inc which responded to proposals for activation, reuse and regeneration of Derby Road, Huyton Village’s Highstreet, from its Tip to its Top.

The Event and projects were supported by University of Liverpool, School of the Arts Research and Development Fund with match funding from KMBC, One Day Regeneration and Architectural Emporium.
Studio Pen and Inc proposals for 2023 2024, led by Sandy Britton, were the third pair of projects in an ongoing live collaboration with Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council, Architectural Emporium, UFSS research group and stakeholder One Day regeneration, critically thinking on the High Street renewal of Huyton Village.
Project propositions
- TIP Meeting Huyton. In semester one students, informed by carnival designers Walk the Plank designed a demountable carnival / exhibition and hub with new public realm at the tip of the high street: Huyton Station Gateway. The hub supports activities to celebrates the role of Huyton Station in the 2030 bicentenary of the birth of passenger rail travel.
- TOP Staying in Huyton. In semester two students worked with council and stakeholders One Day Regeneration on a reuse project to design a Multi- Function Culture Hub. It proposed re-purposing 1- 8 Derby Road adjacent to its church top at the former village heart
