Paper 'Ideas for Huyton: education through collaboration’ co-authored by Sandy Britton, Fei chen and Luke Cooper is accepted for publication in AAE CharretteThe Journal of the Association of Architectural Educators Special Issue – Volume 9, Issue 1 – Spring 2023 journal special edition 'Beginning Architecture: Contextualising thresholds in architectural education'

The paper reflects on the outcomes and process of academic year October 2022 to 2023  where BA3 Studio pen and Inc conceived and trialled a live multiple party collaboration between their 30 students and 5 teaching staff, Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council, Dr Fei Chen (UoL research group Urban Form and Social Space) and practice Architectural Emporium to imagine proposals for meanwhile and retrofit projects for Huyton Village High Street. Small pots of funding from the University’s Research Development Initiative Fund and Flexible Impact fund matched in kind by AE and KMBC enabled this.

The paper reflects on the process, the outcomes, the symbiotic nature of the collaboration as a unique live pedagogical practice for students at the start of their professional academic journey.

The journal is now due to be published early summer.
