BA3 Studio 5 have just returned from a very enjoyable field trip to Berlin. 32 students and 5 staff went and visited the Nordic Embassies, the Landesvertretung Baden-Wuerttemberg (where we were fed a delicious three course meal), the Austrian Embassy, the Indian Embassy (great Samosas), the Hessische Landesvertretung, the Dutch Embassy, the Landesvertretung Nordrhein-Westfalen (tea, biscuits and apple juice), and the British Embassy. We are extremely grateful to all the institutions who gave us access to and tours of their buildings. Also on the itinerary were Mies’ Neue Nationalgalerie, Chipperfield’s renovation of and addition to the Neues Museum, Schinkel’s Altes Museum, the Hansa-Viertel and the Tchoban Foundation, where we saw an exhibition of drawings by Aldo Rossi. The students are designing an Embassy building in Berlin in semester two, and the trip was a good start to the project for all involved.
