Liverpool Responds: The Future of Football

Wednesday 16 September - (catch-up)

Join football industry experts as they discuss the pandemic's impact on the nation's favourite sport and consider how it can bounce back!

Chaired by Kieran Maguire, the University academic behind The Price of Football blog, book and podcast - and frequent media commentator, the latest in the University’s Liverpool Responds series, welcomes a diverse panel of football industry experts.

Kieran will be joined by Nicola Palios, Co-owner and Vice-Chairman Tranmere Rovers FC; Matt Parish, Foundation Director, LFC Foundation; Professor Sue Bridgewater, Director of the Centre for Sports Business at the University of Liverpool; and Matt Slater, former BBC and Press Association sports reporter, currently a writer at The Athletic, to discuss the future of this treasured industry in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Liverpool is a city synonymous for many with football, and for many living here, football is at the heart of their community. At a time when the strength and cohesion of communities around the world have been tested, the panel will discuss the power of this unique industry to provide a sense of connection; the contribution the football industry at all levels plays in our societies locally in Merseyside, nationally and internationally; and what the future might hold for this great sport.

Please note, there is limited capacity on Zoom so places will be allocated on a first come first served basis on the day. Access to the event via Facebook is unlimited.

Guests on both Facebook and Zoom will be able to ask questions to the panel.
