Liverpool Responds: Enabling Diversity and Equality

Liverpool Responds: Enabling diversity, equality and inclusion

Catch-up

Listen to our expert panellists discuss racial diversity and equality on a global, national and local scale.

About this Event

In the wake of the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer, the Black Lives Matter movement brought the issue of systemic racism to the forefront of debate globally.

With Premier League players taking a knee, pro-Black performances on prime time television entertainment shows and corporations rushing to embrace diversity, it seems the momentum towards greater racial equality is unstoppable.

But, with a US President leveraging division and populist leaders around the world encouraging discord, how much has really been achieved and what must be done to ensure continued momentum.

Liverpool Responds, the University of Liverpool platform developed in the shadow of a pandemic, would like you to join the panel for a very special diversity and equality event, where we will consider these issues and contemplate how much there is still to do.

Chaired by Professor Fiona Beveridge, Executive Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Humanities and Social Sciences, the latest in the University’s Liverpool Responds series, welcomes a diverse panel of experts.

Fiona is joined by Professor Richard Oreffo – Director; Centre for Human Development, Stem Cells and Regeneration, Chair in Musculoskeletal Science and Founder of the Cowrie Scholarship Foundation, Dr Richard Benjamin - Head of the International Slavery Museum, Dr Leona Vaughn - Derby Research Fellow and Lydia Redican - Widening Participation and Outreach Officer and Secretary to the University of Liverpool Staff BAME Network.
