I am a biological-scientist with extensive training in experimental oncology, PhD in Immunology and Microbiology by the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), Brazil (2015), supervised by Prof. Dr Luiz R. Travassos (MD, PhD). After completing my Ph.D., I awarded a three years-fellowship by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and the prestigious BEPE/FAPESP award to develop one year of internship in the United Kingdom, where I studied the interactions of melanoma cells and stromal immune cells under the supervision of Dr Ainhoa Mielgo (PhD). As a young postdoctoral fellow, I have published numerous peer-reviewed papers in prestigious journals, including Frontiers in Immunology, Scientific Reports, Oncogene, Molecular Cancer Research, JBC and Translational Oncology. I have previous experience in pre-clinical drug discovery, including isolation and mechanistic characterization of anti-tumour peptides derived from natural sources and Ig-based CDRs fragments, with cytotoxic and immunomodulatory activities. My current research focuses on the immunobiology and immunotherapy of cancer, with the emphasis in metastatic melanomas. Immunotherapy has been considered the new milestone for treatment of advanced metastasis. I believe that breaking tumour-induced immunotolerance is a critical step to restore cancer immunosurveillance and induce more durable anti-tumour immune responses. Currently, I am a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Prof. Sarah E. Coupland (MBBS, PhD, FRCPath, FARVO, FRSB), studying the immune characterization of Uveal Melanoma and the molecular interactions between cancer cells and the stroma of primary and metastatic tumours, for the development of more effective adjuvant immunotherapies.
