The Mental Health Advisory Service is offering a new series of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses for University staff. These accredited courses will help you recognise the signs of poor mental health and give you the skills and confidence to offer effective support.
Available Courses
Full Mental Health First Aid (16 hours)
Mental health can affect anyone, both personally and professionally. Training as a Mental Health First Aider (MHFAider) will give you:
- A deeper understanding of mental health and the factors that influence it
- The skills to spot the signs of poor mental health and the confidence to start a conversation
- Tools to support someone and guide them towards appropriate help
- Knowledge of support services within and outside the University
Training format
Four consecutive sessions on Tuesday mornings, 9.15am – 1.00pm
Accreditation
The course is accredited by Mental Health First Aid England. Completion enables you to join the Association of Mental Health First Aiders and access resources via MHFA’s specialist app.

Mental Health First Aid Refresher (4 hours)
This four-hour refresher course is for staff who completed MHFA training three or more years ago. It helps you renew your skills, update your knowledge, and practise applying the MHFA action plan. You will also rejoin the Association of Mental Health First Aiders and access the latest MHFA resources.
