Additional Considerations Policy

How to get additional support with your assessments as a disabled student under the Additional Considerations Policy.

Under the Additional Considerations Policy, if you have an extension-related reasonable adjustment listed in your Student Support Information Sheet (SSIS), you can submit eligible assessments up to 14 calendar days after the original deadline.

How does it work?

  • All students get a standard 7-consecutive-calendar-day extension.
  • Disabled students with the extension adjustment in their Student Support Information Sheet (SSIS) get an extra 7 days, so you'll have 14-consecutive-calendar-days in total if you need it.

What you need to know

  • You don’t need to apply for the extra 7 days – it will be applied automatically.
  • Your personalised extension deadline will be shown on Canvas.
  • If you miss both the 7- or 14-calendar-day deadline (depending on your entitlement), your work will receive a mark of 0
  • Some assessments (like in-class tests or some group work) might not be eligible for extensions – check your programme/module handbook carefully.

Tips for managing your time

Even though the extension is there to support you, it’s still important to try and plan your work to meet the original deadline.

Here are a few tips to help:

  • Treat the extension as a backup, not a new deadline.
  • Build buffer time into your schedule in case something unexpected happens.
  • Reach out early to your Academic Adviser, DDC, or Student Services if you’re struggling.
  • Ask for help if you’re unsure about how the extension works – we’re here to support you.
