Business and Innovation
We work actively with the Business Gateway and commercial partners to support innovation in translating science into products, systems and services that improve our environment and the health of society. This work includes traditional research and development, contract research including proof of concept and clinical trials, paid consultancy and analysis of complex data. Support is also provided in Knowledge Exchange Transfer Partnerships, Regulatory issues and in generating Intellectual Property. Our partners are also provided with access to our world class facilities.
Our partners include Bentley, Californian Prune Board, Coca-Cola, Danone, the European Union, GE Avionics, Ingredion, Heinz, Jaguar LandRover, NTT (Japan), Sony, Tate & Lyle Truecolour, Optis, Unilever and Weight Watchers.
Through media work, public events and liaisons with local government partners, NHS trusts, 3rd sector organisations, royal colleges and health services outside the UK, we influence health policy and practice, in addition to urban planning in the context of mental health and non-communicable disease.

Through long standing working relationships across many international criminal justice systems, emergency and security services and defence agencies, our Department provides training, continuing professional development, consultancy and contract research to improve the detection of threat, management of risk, protection of the public, effectiveness of law and rehabilitation of the offenders.
