About me
Stephen obtained a Ph.D in Chemistry from the University of Southampton. Working in the group of Dr. John Langley and in collaboration with Pfizer Global Research and Development, he applied mass spectrometry to analyse small molecule drug metabolites to facilitate their rapid and definitive characterisation. Following this, Stephen moved to the Michael Barber Centre for Mass Spectrometry at the University of Manchester to undertake post-doctoral research.
As a member of the Census of the Proteome of Yeast (CoPY) project, he has been responsible for the analytical aspects of a large-scale quantification study aiming to determine absolute abundances of a large proportion of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae (bakerí's yeast) proteome. This has involved aspects of sample preparation, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry method development (particularly design of selected reaction monitoring [SRM] assays) and data processing and interpretation.
In 2013, Stephen moved to the Institute of Integrative Biology at the University of Liverpool to continue work on the CoPY project.
Stephen is a member of several Royal Society of Chemistry committees and acts as the Special Interest Group co-ordinator for the British Mass Spectrometry Society. He is also a regular referee for peer-reviewed journals.
