Care Leavers' Opportunity Bursary

The Care Leavers' Opportunity Bursary scheme offers additional funds to support students who have been in public care. The bursary is worth £3,000 per year and can be taken as either a cash award or as a fee waiver.

To be eligible for the award you need to meet the following criteria:

  • Have spent a minimum of 13 weeks in Local Authority care since the age of 14; and
  • Be aged 28 years or under (on 1 September of the year in which you intend to commence your studies); and
  • Be a 'home' (UK) undergraduate student, classified by the Student Loans Company as 'home' for student support purposes.

Applicants to the University of Liverpool will be contacted in August once an offer of a place has been confirmed with further details and a request to provide the following evidence:

  • A letter from leaving care team, designated teacher or social worker or a copy of our pro forma signed by any of the above.

Students studying on an NHS-funded programme will not be eligible for the Care Leavers' Opportunity Bursary.

Please email advice@liverpool.ac.uk if you would you like to apply for this bursary.

If you require further information on the bursary please contact Martina Ferrari in Wellbeing Advice and Guidance at advice@liverpool.ac.uk.
