WP5 Overview

Development of operational objectives for the (a) NS, (b) NWW and (c) SWW regions

WP5    Objectives

  • Develop the operational objectives to achieve the ecological objectives identified for the NSRAC
    region.
  • Develop the operational objectives to achieve the ecological objectives identified for the NWWRAC
    region.
  • Develop the operational objectives to achieve the ecological objectives identified for the SWWRAC
    region.

Description of work

Operational objectives provide a direct and practical interpretation of the management that is necessary to
achieve the ecological objectives developed in WP2. WP5 will produce operational strategies for the case
studies identified in WP1, using fisheries management tools, to achieve the ecological objectives for
the ecosystem components. The objectives will be based on an analysis of the current state of the
ecosystem and the perceived social and economical impact the proposed management measures will have.
The three pillars (ecosystem, economic activities and social circumstances) will be linked.

This WP will be achieved using workshops with MEFEPO partners and invited regional industry groups,
citizen groups, managers and other stakeholders to ensure the operational objectives are acceptable to a
wide body of stakeholders interests and consider ecological, social and economic requirements. Workshop
attendees will include members of the fishing industry and the EU. The workshops will be supported by high
quality, focussed discussion reports which will be used to structure the workshops. The workshops will have
clear objectives and any discussions will be captured and subsequently reported in the technical report so as
to reflect the diversity of opinion and any consensus.
