The Management School’s Accounting and Finance subject group successfully hosted the British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) Northern Area Group (NAG) Annual Conference on Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 September 2023.

The two-day event took place in the Management School and provided a discussion of accounting and finance in achieving sustainability and served as an extraordinary platform for academics, researchers, and professionals dedicated to advancing sustainability.

During this year’s BAFA-NAG conference, attendees took part in a number of sessions and workshops on topics such as Accounting and Fraud Detection, Asset Pricing and Market Reactions, Corporate Governance and ESG, Risk Management and more.

Following the first day of the conference, attendees were invited to attend a gala dinner at Liverpool’s Pullman Hotel and heard from keynote speaker Jeremy Nicholls, SDG Impact Standards Assurance Framework Lead, United Nations Development Program and Capitals Coalition Ambassador, whose illuminating address challenged traditional perspectives on accounting's role in both business and society.

Attendees were also captivated by Professor Edward Lee's engaging and insightful workshop on the essentials of crafting a successful research paper. In addition distinguished panellists Edward Lee (Manchester), Jia Li (Portsmouth), and Chris Florackis (Liverpool) provided an enlightening discussion on the challenges and opportunities in sustainability research.

The successful event concluded with a prize giving with the following individuals being highlighted for their exceptional contributions:
