The Entrepreneurs’ Monthly Meet-up is a University HEIF-funded initiative run by the Brett Centre for Entrepreneurship in collaboration with six colleges and universities across the Liverpool City Region.

The aim of the events is to connect entrepreneurial students and graduates from across Liverpool and expose individuals to the very best independent businesses in the city.

The Entrepreneurs’ Monthly Meet-up runs eight times across the academic year with the most recent event taking place on Thursday 27 April.

This edition was finance-focused and held in The Plaza on Old Hall Street, the heart of Liverpool Central Business District. The monthly meet-up ran in collaboration with LCR Finance Hub and River Capital which are both parts of Merseyside Special Investment Fund.

The monthly meet-up started out with LCR Finance Hub’s Investment Manager speaking to the student/graduate entrepreneurs about the support the service can offer to help individuals financially plan and gain access to funding to start up.

Following that River Capital’s Investment Manager spoke about debt finance and the way to raise this for start-ups and after that, the organisation's Investment Director spoke to the group about equity investment and the ways successful businesses can look to raise capital to accelerate growth.

In addition to this one of River Capital’s investee entrepreneurs, Oliver Fisher, spoke to the 60 participants about setting up and developing his successful online business. This included talking about gaining investment as well as taking questions off the audience about his journey and company Springpod: a careers platform where students can experience the world of work and university before they apply.

Finally, students/graduates enjoyed informal networking as well as food and refreshments that the newly opened independent restaurant Nord provided.

The Entrepreneurs Monthly Meet-up continues to grow and develop its success and community with the seventh monthly meet-up being another success.

Since the first event in October, a total of 550+ people have participated and attended the events. The May Entrepreneurs Monthly Meet-up is being held on Thursday 25 May and is going to be focused on the tech industry and run in collaboration with Liverpool’s biggest tech meet-up Start-up Grind.
