Graduation reflections with Emma Rogers (BSc Economics 2020)
Emma at her graduation reception, post-speech!

We caught up with Class of 2020 graduate Emma Rogers, who is now working as an Actuarial Analyst at Aon and is one of the School’s active alumni volunteers. Emma delivered the graduation speech at the belated ceremony in July, surprising her parents.

Emma, how did it feel to finally graduate in person and deliver the speech at your ceremony?

“Coming back to Liverpool for graduation exceeded all expectations. I was dubious about how it would feel being two years on from when I officially left the University of Liverpool but it was amazing coming back and seeing everyone and also celebrating all the hard work that was put into getting my degree!

To be asked to deliver the graduation speech was a true honour, I couldn’t believe it! I was really nervous when both writing the speech and throughout the day until after I gave it, but I’m so glad I did it because it has created so many amazing memories for me now.

I had decided not to tell my parents that I was doing the speech and surprise them which I also think made me more nervous! They have always supported my time throughout university and for them to be able to see me do that made all the nerves worth it. They were both extremely proud and very emotional.

Overall, I had the best day celebrating with my family and friends and Liverpool will always be home now!”
