UBC UK Award

Representatives from Universities Business Challenge (UBC) Worldwide visited the Management School to present a team of undergraduate students with UBC Worldwide winner’s trophy.

This achievement marks the first time a Management School team has won the competition.

The winning team was made up of 5 Business Management students: Nikita Bethell, Paige Faulconbridge, Bethany MacDonald, Holly Jones and Ellie Dixon

182 teams from 26 universities competed in this year’s challenge which required participants to take part in an online business simulation before progressing on to live semi-finals and the Grand Final event.

Nick Drape, Academic Lead UBC, said “It was fantastic to be able to return to ULMS for the UBC trophy presentation on Monday. It seemed fitting to be able to celebrate this brilliant achievement in person, socially distanced of course! The team should be incredibly proud of themselves being the first team ever from ULMS to win the competition, which has been running since 1998.

“After the trophy presentation there was some time to have a chat and what was clear was that the experiences the team had through the various rounds of the competition were invaluable; some of the team members have gone on to secure graduate positions or industrial placements after winning the competition back in March, and in doing so were able to talk about their UBC experiences to provide evidence of the skills/experience that their new employers were looking for.

“The trophy presentation also represented the first time all the team were able to be together in person and indeed the first time I got to meet them as well. It was lovely just to be able to have a chat with them in person and see how much they enjoyed the competition and working together as a team. The trophy will sit proudly in ULMS for the next year!”

The UBC is the UK’s longest established simulation-based competition designed to help develop students’ employability and enterprise skills. Supported by the University of Liverpool Management School and other leading UK universities and graduate employers, over 30,000 students have benefitted from taking part in the UBC since it was founded in 1998.
