UBC Global Masters Challenge

Three teams of Management School students have made it to the final of this year’s Universities Business Challenge (UBC) Global Masters Challenge.

The Global Masters is a simulation-based competition specifically designed to develop the employability skills of high-calibre postgraduate students.  World-class business simulations give the opportunity to run a series of businesses enabling the development of an entrepreneurial mindset and providing a real test of each team’s ability to drive business performance.

During the first round, teams were required to run a growing consumer electronics business in a competitive environment - where innovation drives performance - making decisions that will impact on business success.  The round tested the operational as well as the strategic abilities of each team member.

Nick Drape, Academic Lead UBC, said: “This is only the second year that teams from ULMS have entered the UBC Global Masters and it is fantastic news that all three teams have made it through to the final!

Teams have had to adapt to a new way of working this year given that they couldn’t meet up in person, but they have done that superbly. All three teams have invested a lot of time and effort into the competition so far and they should really fancy their chances in the final, where they will compete against 17 other teams.

We set up an MS Teams channel for the teams and there was a lot of activity and the drop-in sessions were always well attended. It was a real pleasure supporting the teams and I look forward to cheering them on from the (virtual) side lines in the final.”

The Grand Final will take place in March 2021 and will focus on a major strategic challenge for creating value in organisations.
