Digital Assessment Centre

Second year undergraduate students took part in an online digital assessment centre on Monday 19 October.

The assessment centre forms part of the Placement Preparation module which aims to prepare students for a year in industry by providing them with the skills required to secure a work placement.

Facilitated by SRS Recruitment and Employability Experts and organised by Chris Barlow, Director of Employability and Placements, the digital assessment centre replaced the face-to-face event which has taken place at Anfield in previous years.

Having been provided with a brief in advance of the assessment centre, students were required to deliver a presentation to an assessor and a number of peers via Zoom.  They also took part in a group task to, designed to demonstrate their team working skills.  Both activities were assessed and each student received individual feedback from SRS.

Students that took part, found the session extremely valuable with feedback including:

“Yesterday I took the opportunity to experience a (practice) digital assessment centre. Today I received my feedback report and I am ecstatic!

Unfortunately our face to face event was cancelled in March due to lockdown. Therefore, I would like to say a huge thank you to Chris Barlow, SRS Recruitment and Employability Experts and the team for adapting and still making it possible to provide a successful event for us students at ULMS. I found it extremely helpful and I now have a better understanding of what to expect in reality. Moreover, I have gained confidence in myself during this valuable and insightful experience. It will definitely help me for the future.

I felt particularly nervous about the presentation as I had lots to deliver but this didn't stop me from performing well. I am pleased to have discovered that I passed this exercise and would have had an offer made!

As for the group exercise, we were tasked to create our own fundraising event. We worked great as a team and decided to plan a virtual concert. I took the responsibility of being a note taker, time keeper and presenting back to our assessors. The observer/assessor mentioned that I was an “effective team player and leader.”

“My experience at the assessment centre was really insightful and informative. I feel more confident now to do a real life assessment centre as the feedback the assessors gave was really useful with good tips on how to improve my performance. Overall, it was well organised and extremely beneficial for students.  Thank you for letting me attend! I really enjoyed it.”

"I had a great time experiencing the assessment centre simulation organised by SRS! What I enjoyed the most was the assessors' engagement. I feel more confident in doing a presentation by engaging an audience and enhancing my speaking, time management and creative skills in the group exercise! Thank you SRS team for the opportunity!"
