Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement, United Utilities

A Management School research project, on modern slavery in supply chains, has been mentioned in United Utilities' Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement 2020.

Dr Bruce Pinnington, Dr Jo Meehan, and PhD student, Nathan Davies, carried out an independent review for United Utilities which looked at the implications of modern slavery legislation on its practices and culture.  Consisting of a paper review and in depth interviews with senior leaders and procurement/contract management professionals across the business, the study has provided United Utilities with a focus for building effectiveness in its future business planning.

The research was part of their ongoing work with the UK Government’s Crown Commercial Service exploring how key government suppliers are responding in practice to modern slavery legislation. The results of the study contribute to an evidence base for future Government policy reviews. This project forms part of a wider four year programme of research with Crown Commercial Service, the Home Office, and the Cabinet Office, led by Dr Meehan and Dr Pinnington.
