Make Thread, a new sustainable curated fashion company set up by two Liverpool MBA alumni, is raising money to support those most affected by COVID-19.

Sarah O'Brien and Katie Roche established Make Thread in 2018 after graduating from the Management School.

The company offers aspiring and creative fashion designers the opportunity to start their own sustainable t-shirt label, without the requirement of upfront money and manufacturing capabilities.  It also provides a unique purchasing and sharing interactive experience through its social marketplace community.

Make Thread had helped to organise, and was due to participate in, the Liverpool Fashion Summit (scheduled 22-24 April).  The event was cancelled due to the current pandemic so instead, Sarah and Katie have created a new t-shirt collection called ‘Design for Kindness’.   The collection aims to “spread positivity faster than COVID-19” with all profits being donated to The National Emergency Trust.

Sarah said: “After hearing about many creatives losing their jobs, freelance work drying up and general upset across the world we thought it was important to utilise our platform to do some good. We chose the National Emergencies Trust as we wanted the money raised to go straight to the people and organisations who need it the most.”

Katie added: "Inclusivity and kindness is at the heart our business which is why we decided to launch our Design for Kindness t-shirt campaign. We want to bring people together by spreading positivity within the online community. We are encouraging people to get involved from their home whether it’s designing or wearing and sharing a Design for Kindness t-shirt. Let’s spread some kindness and TogetherApart get through this.”
