Group presenting at We Can Work it Out final

Master’s students recently took part in the final of the 2020 ‘We Can Work it Out’ consultancy challenge.

Working with various employers, students were required to come up with solutions to a real-life business problem within four weeks. Throughout this time participants were given access to a consultancy expert and had the opportunity to attend a number of workshops.

During the final of the challenge, groups were required to present their recommendations back to the employer.  The teams were then entered into a prize draw to win Amazon vouchers with team Phoenix from Bank View Hire group taking the prize on the night.

Maureen Cross, Managing Director at Bank View Hire, said “This was our first involvement with the challenge and when invited we were a little sceptical about return.

“These exceptional master’s students from across the globe staggered me with their enthusiasm and commitment to the project throughout. They researched us thoroughly and the presentations were exceptionally detailed highlighting our opportunities but, most importantly, offering robust and often low-cost solutions.”

Jonathan Seal, Director of Experience at Mando, said “This is the third time we’ve taken part in the consultancy challenge and once again we were deeply impressed by the calibre of thinking and effort that goes into the presentation response we got back.

“It’s a testament to the quality of students and teaching that – with some additional context and polishing – they could compare respectably against seasoned professionals and consulting firms. Well done to all involved!”

Joanne Hilliard, General Manager at Globe Heat Treatment Services, said: “We thoroughly enjoyed working with the students on this programme and were very impressed about how they got to grips with our challenge in an industry they had very little prior knowledge of.  Their enthusiasm was amazing and we will use their results to continue with our aim of locating a distributor within the US to help us gain access into this market.

This was an extremely well-run programme and thanks to everyone who was involved.”
