Students take part in International Innovation and Enterprise Skills Competition

Two teams of Accounting and Finance students competed at the International Innovation and Enterprise Skills Competition at London Southbank University on Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd April.

The students were chosen to represent the University based on their performance in one of their first semester modules which included an online business simulation game, SimVenture.

During the competition, students were required to run the business simulation, having analysed the business position, and present their results to a panel of judges.  They competed against other UK universities, including LSBU, Lancaster, Kent, Derby and Middlesex, as well as a number of colleges from China.

The students performed remarkably well, with both teams receiving a silver award for their work at the presentation ceremony in the Institute of Directors in London. Madeline Ryan also received a specific accolade for the most enterprising UK student at the event.

Chris Barlow, Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance, commented “The competition allowed the students an excellent opportunity to develop their soft skills, at an early stage in their academic journey and in a competitive environment.  It also gave them their first experiences of Chinese culture.

The students represented both themselves and the University very well indeed and the experience will prepare them well for future employability opportunities.”
