Management School helps students prepare for UBC worldwide

The Management School organised a mock semi-final on Wednesday 20th February to help students prepare for the Universities Business Challenge (UBC) Worldwide.

UBC is a simulation-based competition designed to develop participants’ employability and enterprise skills.  It is open to undergraduate students and requires them to work in groups to make decisions and solve business problems.

During the mock semi-final students were presented with the type of tasks they will be faced with on the day including a 30 second elevator pitch as well as a one minute presentation on a product or service.

40 Management School students, which make up nine separate teams, have made it to this stage and will be attending semi-finals in Bristol, Chelmsford and London over the coming weeks.

Nick Drape, Lecturer in Accounting, commented “Students get an awful lot out of the University Business Challenge; they improve their business acumen, gain a real understanding of the importance of teamwork, are forced outside their comfort zone and I think it is one of the experiences they will remember very fondly from University.

It also gives them something really valuable to talk about when they are applying for graduate roles or postgraduate study.
