Academic staff attend Learning and Teaching seminar

A number of academic staff attended a seminar on Wednesday 7th November to help familiarise them with Bloomberg Professional.

Bloomberg Professional gives users access to industry leading data, research, news and analytics in real-time.  The Management School’s state-of-the-art Bloomberg Suite is one of the largest offered by a UK university and resembles a professional trading floor.

The seminar aimed to help academics integrate the software into their modules so that students can make the most of the features it offers.  During the session, attendees heard more about the advantages of Bloomberg and were shown how to use some of its main functions.

Gianluigi Giorgioni, Lecturer in Finance, led the demonstration and commented, "Bloomberg Professional, solely accessible in the McKenzie Trading room, is an exciting teaching tool available to ULMS students to enhance research connected and active learning and to allow them to be engaged in forms of assessment that can boost their employability.

The workshop provided a gentle introduction to what Bloomberg Professional can offer in practice and an insight of its potential as a teaching tool. Given the fact that demonstrations of Bloomberg Professional play a role in ULMS recruitment activities, we can only expect that increasing numbers of students will want to be able to use it as  an integral component of their learning experience”

The session was part of a series of seminars which are designed to engage staff in discussions about learning, teaching and pedagogy in order to encourage the sharing of good practice.
