Michael Marsh, Senior Technical Specialist at Bank of England, visited the Management School to give a talk to undergraduate students.

During his talk, Michael focused on interest risk, how it arises and the impact upon firms.  The session also included an exercise focusing on the factors that the Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee have to consider when deciding on the official interest rate; and how to calculate spot and forward interest rates to help the treasury function in an institution to manage interest rate risk.

At the end of the talk there was an opportunity for students to ask questions.

The Bank of England session was part of the ULMS Extra programme which provides a range of opportunities for undergraduate students to enhance their skills.  The programme includes a variety of sessions including guest speakers, presentations, employment preparation activities and business games.
