A paper written by Dr Pablo Munoz, Senior Lecturer in Entrepreneurship, and Dr Jonathan Kimmitt, Newcastle University, has been awarded the Thomson Reuters Best Paper Award at this year’s Global Innovation and Knowledge Academy (GIKA) conference.

The paper, titled “Social Mission as Competitive Advantage: A Configurational Analysis of Micro Antecedents of Strategic Social Entrepreneurship”, contributes towards a more complex understanding of the set of conditions involved in the balancing act between social and economic missions in social entrepreneurship.  It calls into question the binary assumption underlying the commitment of social entrepreneurs to their social mission.

GIKA is an international peer-reviewed conference on Innovation, Business and Knowledge Management.  It is held in top international universities with this year’s taking place in The Catholic University of Valencia, following the theme of Digital Transformations and Value Creation in International Markets.

Dr Pablo Munoz said, “We took part in this conference as part of the review process for a special issue on innovative methods in business and management in Journal of Business Research (3*). The award is fantastic news as it confirms the good work me and my colleague, Jonathan Kimmitt (Newcastle University), have been doing and gets our paper closer to publication.”
