Undergraduate students take part in assessment centre simulation

First year students took part in an assessment centre simulation day on Tuesday 17th April as part of the Placement Preparation module.

360 students attended the event at Anfield Football stadium which was organised by the Management School, the University’s Careers and Employability Service and Smart Resourcing.

Participants were required to take part in a group exercise to test their ability to work with others as well as a presentation which tested their individual skills. They were marked based on their performance and given feedback on how to improve.

The assessment centre was the final stage of the module which aims to help get students ready for when they are applying for Year in Industry placements.  Previous sessions have included various workshops on topics such as CVs, interview techniques, sourcing employer information and job applications.

The Year in Industry programme is designed to prepare students for employment by allowing them to undertake a placement year during their third year of study.  The benefits of this include a chance to try out certain career paths, learning about workplace culture, the chance to see academic theory put into practice as well as the opportunity to develop the key skills employers look for.    ‌
