Development Talk with Professor Kunal Sen

Professor Kunal Sen, Director of UNU-WIDER, visited the Management School on Wednesday 21st February to give a talk to staff and students.

Kunal Sen is Professor of Development Economics at the Global Development Institute, University of Manchester, and Joint Research Director of the DFID-UK funded Effective States and Inclusive Development (ESID) Research Centre. His current research is on the political economy of development. Professor Sen’s recent authored books are The Political Economy of India’s Growth Episodes, London: Palgrave Macmillan and Out of the Shadows? The Informal Sector in Post-Reform India, Delhi: Oxford University Press, 2016. He has won the Sanjaya Lall Prize in 2006 and Dudley Seers Prize in 2003 for his publications.

The talk, organised by the Development Research Initiative (DRIVE) and the Global Development Institute (GDI), focused on "What Motivates Politicians? Evidence from a Lab in the Field Experiment in India".  Kunal spoke about the design of the study and discussed its findings.
