MSc Operations and Supply Chain Management students welcome guest speaker

Mini Zhu, Plant Manager at Rolls-Royce, visited the Management School to talk to MSc Operations and Supply Chain Management students.

Originally from China, Mini graduated from the programme in 2012 and soon secured herself a place on the Rolls-Royce graduate scheme.   Within a few years Mini progressed onto a management role within the company and now manages quality, delivery schedules, resource and recruitment within her own production facility.

Mini gave students tips and advice on CV writing as well as how to succeed at assessment centres.  She also spoke about the challenges she faced as an international student, such as visa restrictions and language barriers, and how these were overcome as Rolls-Royce offered to sponsor her visa and she managed to improve her English skills within three months just by listening to her colleagues.  Mini said during her talk that she “would like to see more international students applying to these big companies in the UK.”

Students also had the opportunity to take part in a question and answer session which gave them the opportunity to find out more about applying for graduate schemes and working at Rolls-Royce.

Andy Lyons, Professor in Operations and Supply Chain Management, commented “This was an inspiring session for the students. Mini gave a really motivating talk and encouraged the students to apply to Rolls Royce and similar multi-national companies in the UK. Such an ambition seemed out of reach for some of them until they listened to Mini. The talk was both interesting and informative, full of energy and enthusiasm, and Mini had a great way of connecting with the students.”
