Second year undergraduate students from the Management School visited the University of Liverpool in London campus on Tuesday 6th February to find out more about completing their Year in Industry placement in London.

Megan Blackadder and Samuel Leonard, who are both currently taking their placement year in London, explained how beneficial time in a working environment has been and their experiences of living in London.  Both emphasised the practical skills they have developed throughout the year and how they will apply this knowledge in their final year of study.

Megan and Sam’s placement employers, Debenhams and Warner Music, also spoke, outlining the range of placements available in their organisations and identifying the skills and attributes needed to apply as well top tips for the application process.

The students additionally took part in a speed networking session with a number of employers who are recruiting for placements this year. The students had a valuable opportunity to ask questions and start to build up a network of business contacts.  Employers included Enterprise Rent a Car, Sino-British Business Alliance, Cummins, Anson McCade and FDM

Julia Hodgson, Director of Placements, said “The networking event at the London campus provided our year two students with a fantastic opportunity to explore a range of placement options in an informal setting. Talking directly to employers, and hearing career stories and advice from our students who are currently on placement, was a hugely beneficial way for students to make connections and to get the information and insights they need to find placements in London next year.”

There will also be a similar opportunity at the University of Liverpool Annual Spring Careers Fair on Wednesday 7th March in The Crypt Hall, Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.  A number of employers looking to recruit placement students will attend, providing a valuable opportunity to meet potential employers informally.  More information can be found by contacting Sandra Hughes, Placements and Internships Co-ordinator.
