ULMS Extra holds next cultural workshop

The ULMS Extra programme recently held the latest of its culture workshops focusing on American culture.  The session looked at different customs and etiquette when doing business in the USA to prepare students for doing business at a global capacity.

The workshop comes as part of a series of six that aims to improve students’ employability by developing their communication skills and awareness of varying cultural behaviours.  Attendees were also able to integrate at a faculty level as students from the Management School, School of the Arts and Liverpool International College were invited.

The feedback from students has been extremely positive with comments such as:

“I’ve learnt things I would never even have thought to ask about.  I would definitely sign up to similar opportunities in the future”

“The workshops have been very good, I have learnt to appreciate and understand lots of different cultures.”

“I find it incredibly worthwhile and valuable to get a genuine insight into other cultures and how to engage with any difficult cross-cultural communications.”

Paul Matthews, Lecturer in Marketing, ran the session and commented, “The feedback we have received shows the passion of our students to understand the impact of different cultures on them from both an academic as well as employability perspective. The feedback also demonstrates very clearly the value of running events of this nature as part of the extensive range of wider skills development opportunities ULMS offers.”
