ULMS extra: Indian Culture workshop

Published on

Undergraduate students recently took part in a culture workshop as part of the ULMS Extra programme. The session is part of a series of five workshops that aim to build up students’ cultural awareness and improve their employability.

The workshop focused on Indian culture and was led by Rohit Ramesh, Head of International Recruitment for the University.  He started by giving students background information and key facts about India such as the fact that it is the seventh largest economy and is also one of the fastest growing.  Rohit also discussed different customs and etiquette when doing business in India and advised students to try to adapt local attitudes.

Rohit said about the workshop, “Students not only have to have the skills required for the job market in today’s world, but they have to be able to apply their knowledge in different cultural settings.  There are many examples of ideas, products, and concepts that have failed on a large scale due to a lack of cultural understanding.  We want students to be able to work anywhere in the world and with anyone in the world, and so it is essential to learn about the impact culture can have on the success of global business and industry.”
