Football Industries MBA students visit Goodison Park

Students on the Football Industries MBA programme recently had the chance to visit Goodison Park, home of Everton Football Club.

Goodison is one of the most recognisable stadiums in the country.  It was the first Football League ground to hold an FA Cup Final in 1894 and it hosted five games during the 1966 FIFA World Cup.  More recently, the stadium hosted the first outdoor boxing event to take place in Liverpool since 1949 when Tony Bellew defeated Ilunga Makabu in 2016 to claim the WBC Cruiserweight title.

Students heard from a series of speakers which was organised by Muhammed Surtee, a FIMBA graduate who now works for Everton FC.  The talks covered a range of fascinating topics including Everton’s approach to partnership working, public relations, media and managing safety and security at the ground as well as of the team.  There was plenty of opportunity for questions with some really interesting discussions on the different management areas.  Following the talks, students were taken on a tour of the stadium, including the home team dressing room, by former Everton player Ian Snodin who had lots of interesting stories to tell about playing for Everton.

Wenjia Xie, FIMBA student, said about the trip, “A very enjoyable visit at Goodison Park. It gave us a better understanding about the ‘people's club’ by introducing the security and PR. The talk from former Everton player Ian Snodin made the tour special and unforgettable.”
