David Daly, Non-Executive Director at Fulham Football Club, visited the Management School to speak to students on the FIMBA programme.

Before joining the board at Fulham, David spent 30 years working for Nike where he dedicated the majority of his time to Nike Football.  His role seen him work closely with teams including Manchester United and Juventus to drive the Nike wholesale business within football clubs around the world.

David spoke to students about the history of the brand and the challenges it faced.  He explained how Nike Football competed with its rivals, such as Adidas and Puma, in order to grow its market share and how it gave women’s football a voice by developing bespoke products specifically designed for women.  David also told students how he had worked closely with Sir Alex Ferguson who gave him lots of advice on leadership which he said “was a great honour and privilege”.

David then went on to talk about his current position at Fulham FC, the team he has supported for his entire life, and how he is utilising his understanding of how clubs operate and his professional network in the football industry to help strengthen the club commercially.

Students enjoyed hearing about David’s experience and were also able to ask lots of insightful questions at the end.
