Alumni presentation to FIMBA students 2017

Students on the FIMBA programme recently took part in a visit to Anfield, home of Liverpool Football Club.

The visit was an excellent opportunity to witness the preparations involved in hosting a Premier League match as it took place the day before Liverpool played Manchester United – one of the biggest games of the season.  Students were also taken on a tour of the stadium and although the dressing rooms were off limits, they were still able to see other areas of the awe-inspiring stadium that is synonymous with the City of Liverpool.

After the tour, students were given a masterclass by four alumni of the FIMBA programme: Dibyo Dwiputranto and Sevak Ghazarian of the club’s commercial department, Dan White, Head of International Academies, and Ianthe Mumford, Regional Talent Club Manager at Liverpool Ladies FC.

Dibyo and Sevak provided the students with insights into the role of the commercial department in both the club’s operations and strategies. This was a rare opportunity to understand, first hand, the interactions between the back room and on-field aspects. Students were also able to glimpse the complex network that are the different units, departments and functions within the club.

With a global fan base and supporter’s network, the Liverpool brand is perhaps one of the most recognised football brands in the world. Dan White explained how the Liverpool experiences are being delivered at international football academies reaching a global network of fans, supporters and players.  Ianthe provided the students with rare access to successes and challenges facing the women’s game and further, the strides that Liverpool Ladies FC had made in recent years to help strengthen the women’s game in England.

The visit was a great success in which students remarked that “It was a unique experience, being able to hear of the experiences of FIMBA Alumni working at the club. The visit to the stadium was also great.”
