Management School student, Sam Tumilty, won first place in a national competition which celebrates entrepreneurial student concepts.

The Spark Challenge is a national competition hosted by Tata Consultancy Services, in partnership with Dame Kelly Holmes Trust, and asks candidates to identify creative solutions to a social issue impacting young people.

The final for the challenge was held on Friday 21st April 2017, when six finalists were invited to present their ideas to a panel of judges from Tata Consultancy Services, Dame Kelly Holmes Trust and partner organisations.

Sam, who is studying an MSc in International Business at the University of Liverpool Management School, was named as the overall winner for his idea, FriendZone. The concept looks to introduce and create friendships via an app. The idea that Sam pitched uses multiple social media platforms to identify similar interests and suggests friend recommendations to allow young people to make networks at work, home or abroad.

Each of the students showcased their video submission before providing an in depth explanation of how their solution would harness online engagement to promote greater connectedness in real life.

The top 3 finalists won a range of prizes including an insight day at Tata Consultancy Services, personalised CV and interview support from HR experts and a range of technology prizes.
