Dr Nick Papageorgiadis, Senior Lecturer in International Business at the University of Liverpool Management School, was recently awarded the Sir Alastair Pilkington Award for Excellence, in addition to the Faculty Learning and Teaching Award.

The Sir Alastair Pilkington Award for Excellence, named in honour of the late Chancellor, and presented on behalf of the University, recognises best practice in learning and teaching and celebrates the achievements of staff that have made an outstanding contribution to pedagogy and the enhancement of the student experience.

Nick was bestowed the award for innovative teaching and thinking outside the box. The panel was particularly impressed with Nick’s simple, but very effective interventions which have been effective in improving and transforming student engagement and feedback. The award is reflective of the evolution in teaching excellence demonstrated by the School.

Nick’s has successfully integrated the use of social media with live interactive sessions several times a week, allowing for accessible means of communication with a large number of students. Nick has also implemented the initiative of “C-office hours”, bringing contact time away from the office into a more informal café setting.

Dr Kris Spelman Miller said: “The impact of the C-office hours and Facebook feedback on student satisfaction and learning is very evident, and particularly commendable given the large student numbers involved. The scalability of this intervention adds to its attractiveness and transferability. Thanks again to Nick for such an inspirational presentation, and many congratulations”.
