Racing UK spoke to Director of Studies for the Thoroughbred Horseracing Industries, Neil Coster and current student, Emma Marley, during the Aintree festival held here in Liverpool across the 6th to 8th April.

Racing UK were keen to find out about the University of Liverpool Management School’s specialist Thoroughbred Horseracing Industries MBA, a unique programme launched in 2015.

Neil spoke about the programme as an industry initiative and highlighted the collaboration that went into designing the course, allowing for flexible teaching. The programme is the only masters-level qualification in the world to be delivered through an exclusive partnership with Britain’s Horserace Betting Levy Board and the British Horseracing Authority.

Emma Marley, a 2nd year student, who has already secured a job as Head of Raceday Operations at the BHA, said “The course is a great initiative by the industry. I’ve been in the industry a long time but I wanted something to enhance my knowledge including the finance and economic aspects of the sport. I’ve learnt a great deal and would recommend this to anybody who wants to get into the sport or progress within it”.

Before embarking on the MBA, Emma held a position as Racing Manager and Clerk of Course at Ayr Racecourse.
