Liverpool MBA students visit alumni in Amsterdam

The "Careers Trek" offered MBA students an insight into working internationally with access to University of Liverpool alumni who were able to share their own experiences of living in the European capital of Amsterdam. Students were joined by MBA Careers Advisor, and Dr. Jo Meehan, Director of Studies for the Liverpool MBA.

The group were able to visit the Amsterdam Stock Exchange where they were given a talk about the history of the stock exchange and had the opportunity to take part in a simulation using the trading floor. They were given a portfolio of companies and then, based on news stories being relayed on TV screens, had seconds to decide whether to buy or sell shares.

The trip also included a visit to Heineken HQ where they met with University of Liverpool alumnus Alex Morris who studied Politics and International Business. Alex, Trade Marketeer (Europe Export & Global Duty Free), gave a talk sharing his own career journey from graduating through to gaining a job at Heineken.

Alex was just one of the University’s alumni who was able to join the MBA cohort at a networking dinner. Alumni in attendance included Asli Kutlucan, Hotel Development at Cycas Hospitality and Jordy Van Kuijk, Senior Consultant for Cap Gemini, both Liverpool MBA graduates.  The group also included Andrew Cameron, who studied an online Masters in International Business and is Co-founder and CFO of fashion marketplace ASADRA and Tom Lohuis, an MSc International Business alumni currently working in audit at Ernst and Young.

The Netherlands offer a highly skilled migrant scheme which allows students from the Times Top 200 universities to apply for a one year visa.
