Undergraduate student plays a part in an academic research project

Ella Burgoyne, a final year BA Marketing student, is working closely with Dr Pippa Hunter-Jones, utilising the skills she has learnt on her programme to market an academic-led research project

Ella’s role involves marketing the project, to let people know about the team behind it and give an insight into the important research into the mental health sector being undertaken at the Management School.  Ella has also been given the opportunity to participate in the research by reviewing existing literature surrounding mental health and putting forward ideas which will take the project forward.

She said: “I was lucky enough to get involved simply through building connections with my lecturers. It was actually my Director of Studies that told me about the project and since it was a topic that really interests me, I met with the lead academic and things went from there”.

As part a Russell Group university, teaching staff at the Management School are undertaking cutting-edge research in their discipline. The research team for this project, “Mental Health Services: What would a good service look like?” comprises of a team of academics and practitioners in the sector. Last year, they began work to re-vision and re-model how mental health services might be most effectively designed to meet current and future needs, looking at what the mental health service provider landscape looks like on Merseyside and using industry expertise to effectively model a future mental health service offering.

Ella said: “I would advise other students to get involved with as many extra-curricular opportunities that come their way whilst at university. The experiences you gain will develop you as a person and set you apart from other students in a way that is invaluable to future employers.”

The research that has been undertaken so far will be presented at an event held at the Management School on the 25th May.
