Doctoral research suite opening

As part of refurbishment to the Management School building, a substantial amount of money has been invested into the renovation of the lower ground floor which provides office space and meeting areas for the School’s doctoral researchers.

A networking event was held in the Doctoral Research Suite on the 2nd March to mark the official opening. The opening was attended by the School’s doctoral students, Associate Head of Research Professor Mike Zundel, Director of Postgraduate Research, Dilani Jayawarna and the ULMS Research Team. The refurbishment was co-ordinated by Postgraduate Administrator Rebecca Lumberg and Project Co-ordinator James Smith.

The lower ground floor has been renamed as the Doctoral Research Suite and the space now mirrors the student spaces throughout the rest of the School. The area has undergone a deep clean, painting throughout, and new carpet. New desks have also been fitted which maximise office space and provide a comfortable working area for all PGR students. This full space review allows more full time PGR students to have a dedicated desk space either within the school or in Mulberry Court. All furniture throughout has been replaced and a social space has been created for events and meetings, meaning that the space can be used to its full potential.

As part of a Russell Group University, research is integral to the Management School and the substantial investment into the Doctoral Research Suite is a reflection of the expanding research activity within the School.

Jill Roberts, Research Team Leader said: “It is really important to both the Research Team and the School that our doctoral students are made welcome within ULMS and that they are supported as much as possible during their time with us.  The team therefore worked really hard to ensure that the refurbishment of the Lower Ground Doctoral Suite ran as smoothly as possible and was implemented as quickly as possible to ensure that the students could move back into the best working environment that we possibly provide.  I hope that all our students enjoy this new improved space”.
