Students on the MSc Human Resource Management programme attend guest speaker sessions with leading industry professionals.

Director of Studies for the programme, Jennifer Johnson and Associate Head of Postgraduate Programmes, Dr Lisa Anderson carried out research within Action Learning Sets for CIPD, the professional body for HR and people development. As a result of this research, they met key HR leaders from the North West who have agreed to deliver sessions to current students.

The Management School is a CIPD approved centre meaning that students on the MSc HRM programme have the opportunity to become student members of CIPD with access to resources and networking events. Guest lectures have covered issues which are topical within the industry and are also relevant to module content studied on the programme.

Director of HR within TVS Supply Chain Solutions, Julie Sinclair visited campus to talk about her role and the company she works for. TVS Supply Chain Solutions are specialists in receiving, processing and managing the flow of raw materials, individual components and spare parts for a range of manufacturers within the automotive, beverage, industrial and defence markets.

Jennifer Johnson also networks regionally and one of her contacts, Catherine Miles, is a regular speaker on the programme. As Head of Project Management, Catherine has been instrumental in the growth of The Contact Company’s reputation, turnover and client base since joining the business during 2008. Drawing on over 20 years of experience in the outsourcing industry, she builds excellent relationships with clients, from initial meetings through to ongoing responsive account management. Ensuring that programs progress as required, she works tirelessly to proactively identify improvements that can be implemented throughout this process, adding further value for their clients.

Guest speaker sessions taking place over the semester include Phil Davies, Learning & Development Business Partner for Amec Foster Wheeler and Richard Rout, Divisional Manager for Policy, People, Performance & Efficiency in the Enterprise, Community & Resources Directorate at Halton Borough Council.

As part of the HR Professional Institute Network, Tim Scott will also be delivering a webinar. Tim is an expert in social media and will talk about how he incorporates this into his HR career. He was, until recently, HR Director at Brook and now runs his own HR consultancy.
